COMMUNITY PARTNERS PROGRAMME (CPP)

In the beginning... Ormlie Community Association worked in partnership with Save The Children from 2001-2005 to create a dynamic and successful community project aimed at young people between the ages of 9-14years.The aim of CPP was to give young people an understanding of children’s rights and a voice in their own community which was heard and acted upon. Some of the many projects that the young people worked on included helping to design the play area/skate park facilities and participating in the planning of the Home Zone area. The Wavy Wall and Magic Circle complete with drystone armchair were designed by the young people who used modelling clay as a medium to create their ideas; both structures incorporate their artwork.
Since 2005 the CPP initiative has continued to grow and now attracts young people who live out with Ormlie as well as its local residents. We are very grateful to the Caithness Childcare and Family Resource Partnership and Communities Scotland Wider Role through Pentland Housing Association for their support and funding which enabled the CPP to develop further until 2008.Children in Need and Lloyds TSB are our current funders alongside Caithness Childcare and Family Resource Partnership who continue to support our work.
The CPP is now at the stage of having some of our young people who have been members for 4-5 years, volunteering to help run the groups which is something we are very proud of as they are excellent role models for the younger members as well as being an invaluable help to the leaders.
We continue to encourage and support the young people to be active members of their community through enjoyable activities that foster a sense of responsibility, teamwork and respect for others and their environment. Fun activities are also used to introduce the UN Convention on the Rights of Children and in particular to remind them of Article 12 which formed the basis of the CPP initiative.
