Drama success in the Scottish Community Drama Association’s one act plays
The Ormlie Drama group won the Caithness heat of the Highland Youth Festival’s one act plays this month with their performance of ‘Kids in Tights’ which was based on the story of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. The young cast, with an average age of 11yrs, worked very hard during the rehearsals demonstrating a commitment which was second to none. The dedication of their drama tutor Donna Swanson, assisted by Jacqueline Keith and Alison Gerard, ensured this production was of the highest calibre. Ormlie Community Association are extremely proud of the young people involved, it was the first time on stage for some members of the cast and we are delighted at their well earned success.
Changes to come
Ormlie Community Association will say farewell to their Manager of 8 years, Lorna Simpson on Friday 19 March 2010. Mrs Simpson has been responsible for spearheading numerous projects which have been of benefit to the Ormlie estate and the wider community. As a temporary measure, Mrs Helen Allan will takeover the management of the organisation until a replacement to Lorna Simpson is found. Ormlie Community Association Book Launch
Ormlie Community Association has just produced a book based on the last 12 years of community development and regeneration within the Ormlie area. The book entitled 'Swings and Roundabouts' 'the highs and lows of a community association' has been written by Robert M Sutherland, ex-Community Safety Police Officer and a former Chairperson of Ormlie Community Association. It is a history of the regeneration project and gives a very objective view of the journey which Ormlie Community Association went through over the 12 years and is written from Robert's perspective. There are numerous photos going back from 1997 to the present day and include the visit to Ormlie by Donald Dewar, First Minister for Scotland in 1999 and HRH The Prince Charles' visit in 2002. The book also gives an insight in the lessons which OCA have learned over the years which could be beneficial to other community groups.
Ormlie Community Association's new book called 'Swings and Roundabouts', 'The Highs and Lows of a Community Association' is now available for sale at the Ormlie Office, 108 Marr Terrace, Thurso; Bews Bookshop, Thurso; Caithness Horizons, Town Hall, Thurso and DR Simpsons, Bookshop, Wick. The cost of the book is £7.99
